The Bridesmaid CEO
Always a Bridesmaid, never the Bride. Chances are you are the go to person on any team. The reliable person who comes in and gets things done. The trouble is, hanging out in that #2 spot, has led you to believe that being in the spotlight is not available. Feeling this limitation you may find yourself feeling like a fraud, especially when it comes to uplevel your business.
Key Characteristics:
✦
Team Player - you are a person your client relies on.
✦
While you are not afraid to figure things out, you most certainly take a pause before getting started. This is likely because you need to work through feelings of being unqualified.
✦
What’s important is being honest with yourself about what you know and don’t know and not allowing fear to dictate that.
Your Strengths
The Bridesmaid CEO learns things and are always willing to figure it out.
They aren’t afraid to step in, even when its something they have never done before. This is why your existing clients are so thrilled to have you on their team and likely why you are the reliable team member for any project. You are the ideal team member. Perhaps your current client roster have not had success with other contractors, but somehow they have found success with you. This is because you are so good and keenly aware of your clients needs and are able to jump in and help out.
What Might Be Holding You Back
This is all about mindset here.
Your feelings of being an imposter to be in the spotlight are holding you back from becoming your next level CEO. This is a CEO who raises their prices without hesitation. A CEO who confidently creates boundaries around scope of work. THis is not about no longer being a member of the team, instead its about being a member of the team and protecting your energy.
Three strategies to boost your revenue as a Bridesmaid CEO:
✦
Be clear with the team member’s responsibilities - Bridesmaid CEO are so use to doing it all, that when they do bring the team, they may find it challenging to delegate. This is where having SOPs in place. Leveraging that you have some much experience and then documenting it will help your team grow and take on tasks so you can focus on the vision of the business. Yes, so you can be in the spotlight.
✦
If you are asked to do something outside of current scope of work, expressing that in advance and either telling your clients their is an additional fee OR encourage them to find another team member who can help. This doesn’t mean you are not contributing its simply a way to create boundaries around scope creep.
✦
Mindset work: If you find yourself defaulting to thoughts like: “I am a fraud” or I’m afraid to fail” - let’s begin to intentionally decide to think things like “I know my strengths.” “I can learn new things.”
