Since 2016, I've been on a mission to rescue business owners from the time-sucking task of handling their finances.

I've seen it all: from entrepreneurs sacrificing their weekends to the point of exhaustion to spouses reluctantly becoming bookkeepers, only to grow resentful of the job. And then there are the talented office managers buried in numbers, their skills better used elsewhere.

But it's not just about ‘the books’. It's the dread of surprise tax bills, the fear of picking up the phone when your CPA calls, and the relentless cash flow worries. I’ve seen how avoiding these problems or thinking 'the books' are all that matter can really hold your business back.

What you truly need for your business to flourish is a virtual CFO. That’s where I come in.

My Journey from Checkbook Scribbler to Trusted CFO

As a kid, I was the one scribbling on my parents' checks (sorry, Mom and Dad!) and playing with fake credit cards in my little wallet. Fast forward to my college days, and I was learning tough financial lessons the hard way – maxed-out credit cards, credit score nightmares, you name it.

But I turned it all around. I juggled jobs, advocated for better financial aid, and got my finances on track. That journey led me to a successful 16-year career in corporate and non-profits, where I learned the ins and outs of building a solid financial foundation for businesses of all sizes.

In 2016, I took the leap to start my own business, bringing all my financial know-how to help business and practice owners like you.

If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m far from a stuffy, buttoned-up CFO. Here are 10 random but fun facts to prove it:

  1. I’m a former competitive swimmer. Give me long-distance freestyle any day! But 50-yard sprints? Slow as a turtle.

  2. I've got two tattoos – one's a turtle I got at 18 (reminder: slow and steady wins the race), and the other is a cool homage to my kids that I got on date night with my husband.

  3. My husband Tom and I have been together for 22 years, with three human kids and a fur baby Goldendoodle named Josie.

  4. Outside working hours, you can find me spectating sports - both professional competitions and my kids’ sports. I’m the positive, yet nervous mom-type and really enjoy watching my kids do what they love.

  5. My husband and I are hardcore, crazed-stalker-level Pearl Jam fans. I work like a boss to maximize the number of shows we attend during a single tour.

  6. First love: Luke Skywalker. (Sorry, Tom! At least you’re my soulmate!)

  7. I’m an avid reader, and love the books Profit First, Work Clean, and books that explore neurodiversity.

  8. I adore cooking, especially when I hand the recipe and ingredients over to Tom to make. It should come as no surprise that cooking usually includes jamming to Pearl Jam.

  9. My life’s always a balancing act – from ‘mom-ing’ to managing finances. Maybe you can relate?

  10. I’m always up for discussing finances and Star Wars theories - not necessarily in that order.

It's not just about the numbers with me – it's about what those numbers make possible for you.
